A patronymic form of the English and Scottish name Watt, which came from the extremely popular Middle English given name Wat or Watt, which was a pet

form of the name Walter. The surname Watson thus means "son of Watt".

Much of the information I gathered on the Watson family came from census and cemetery records for Upper Musquodoboit and Colchester County. much information on Delia’s family from Mae Archibald McBeth whom she had help straightening out from Earl Taylor.

1. Watson. I suspect the family came from Scotland, settled in Upper Musquodoboit NS. It is a total assumption on my part that John Watson b1888 and George Watson b 1891 were brothers

and that Agnes was their sister, they may be unrelated. The information I have put together came from census records for Upper Musquodoboit yrs 1861,1871,1881,1891,1901.

Also Colchester County Census records, marriage records, birth records. Hillcrest cemetery records and genejane Website.

Margaret: I found it interesting when I discovered the maiden name of Margaret Watson. Margaret Ellis. My dad’s name being Vernon Ellis Scott. I knew he was named after

Grammy’s brother Ellis Bell. However I now see that the name came from dad’s gg grandmother Margaret Ellis Watson. Birth date of 1890 is total guess on my part.

iii John Watson, born July 04, 1842 in Upper Musquodoboit, NS. John and his wife Ann appeared in 1891 census for Upper Musquodoboit, John appears as

a widow age 58 on the 1901 Census for Upper Musquodoboit. I assume Johns mother is Jane Fraser as Johns first wife Margaret was deceased in 1841.At time of Marriage

John was listed as age 39 single and Ann 38 single.

He married Ann Miller?, Oct 28, 1882 in Colchester Co., NS, born 1844. Ann: On Ann’s marriage record parents were listed as James and Sarah. Ann from Upper Stewiacke.

iv William F Watson, born 1850, died 1862 in Upper Musquodoboit, NS, buried 1862 in Hillside Cemetery, Musquodoboit, NS.

v Samuel Watson, born 1852, died 1921, buried 1921 in Upper Musquodoboit, NS.

3. George Watson, (1.Watson¹) born ab 1791, died 1865 in Upper Musquodoboit, NS, buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Upper Musquodoboit, NS. Died at age 74.

He married Eleanor F. Unknown, born ab 1800, died 1889 in Upper Musquodoboit, NS, buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Upper Musquodoboit NS.

Eleanor: Eleanor age 81 is on the 1881 census Upper Musquodoboit, living with son George and Amelia. She is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery Upper Musquodoboit date

of death 1879 age 89. However we know she was alive 1881 on census therefore if she died age 89 she would have had to die in1889.

Third Generation

4. Robert Watson, (2.John², 1.Watson¹) born ab 1841 in Upper Musquodoboit, NS. They appear in 1871and 1881 census for Upper Stewiacke. However I have not found them on any

1891 census. Jessie at age 21 appears to be staying with Emily's father (Jessie's Grandparents) George in Brookfield in 1891. Jessie’s brother George E. age 20 appears to be living on his own in 1891

Upper Musquodoboit census. I had no facts on Robert or Emily however after speaking to Mae Archibald Mc Beth I was able to find out about their deaths. Mae remembered Robert was referred

to as “Buggering Bob” by Aunt Grace. Robert left his family and moved to BC Canada. I have not found a date of death yet.

(Note: If the information I have put together is correct, Robert and his wife Emily’s father were 1^st cousins making him and Emily 1^st cousins once removed)

He married Emily Caroline Watson, 1868 in Upper Musquodoboit, Halifax Co, NS, born Nov 14, 1851 (1901 census age 59?? Born Nov 14, 1849)

(daughter of George Watson (#5) and Amelia White) died May 01, 1932. Age 80.

Emily: Emily and Robert were married 1868 in Upper Musquodoboit by Rev. Robert Sedgewick. (Jane Currie Wile). Emily married #2 J. Brockman Fisher. Emily and Brockman

were on 1891 Census Upper Musquodoboit Household # 63 She age 40, he age 39 and child Ivan Fisher age 4. I also found Emily and Brockman Fisher Born Feb 20, 1852 age 49 living

alone together in 1901 Census Upper Musquodoboit. So somewhere between 1881 and 1891. Emily must have remarried. If we take Ivan age 4 in 1891 she possibly remarried as early as

1886. Another not of interest after taking another look at 1881 Census of Robert and Emily’s household besides the children and Jane age 77 Robert’s step mom Brockman Fisher age 28

farmer was also living with them. Mae Archibald McBeth remembered meeting Grama Fisher when she was about 10 yrs old at the home of George and Jessie Bell. This was shortly before

Emily died. Aunt Grace was in Labor with one of her children and Mae was the only child Aunt Flo would allow to come in. Emily was a tiny lady and had a clay pipe. Emily is buried in

Hillcrest Cemetery Upper Musquodoboit. Fisher Emily C. wife of J. Brockman

as single. In the 1891 census Upper Musquodoboit George is listed age 20 single appears to be living alone.

iii Delia Watson, , born Feb 29, 1876 in Upper Musquodoboit d. Dec 22, 1953 Delia is buried in Old Wittenburg cemetery (Info from Mae) Delia lived in

Wittenburg area raising her family. Delia and Samuel had 2 sets of twins and possibly 3. I remember taking Grammy to visit her cousins Spurgeon and 2 of his sisters

Jessie and Sarah who were twins. They were older and 3 of them living together. Seemed like really nice people and enjoyed Grammy coming to visit. They lived in

Wittenburg behind the church a bit off the main road.

Middle Musquodoboit, NS. Jessie Watson Bell was born in Upper Musquodoboit. She was the second wife of George Bell they had 12 children. She was a well respected midwife and

delivered over 300 babies in the Musquodoboit Area. She practiced midwifery into her 80's and died at age 87. Her son Ellis Bell was referred to in notes from Gram as adopted son of George Bell.

From Jessie's obituary she died at the home of her daughter Florence Archibald.

She married George Bell, June 21,1893 in Brookfield, NS, born Mar 17, 1846 in Chaswood,NS, (son of Thompson Bell and Barbara Muir) died Jan 19,1921 in

Musquodoboit, NS, buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Musquodoboit.

close to George, although he is her Uncle they were only born a few months apart in 1869. Jessie named several of her children from the names in his family. Jessie may have been very close

to his wife Bertha Clarke it appears that Aunt Bertha Clarke Bell Irvin was given her name from her. In the 1901 census Jessie stayed in Brookfield with George and his parents

(Jessie's grandparents) George and Amelia, Geordie and Jessie ages 21 each.
